The mission of the Trade Development Division is to promote and generate international and national trade benefiting the local economy by educating the public and maritime industry about the high quality, broad array of services and facilities the Port of Houston Authority and the Port of Houston has to offer.

The port industry is indeed unique and faces many challenges to its daily operations and continued growth. Two key divisions responsible for most of the Port’s growth and customer interactions are Trade Development and Operations. Trade Development works hard to manage business and growth opportunities, always mindful of the unique considerations of government, environment and its customers. Through its efforts both locally and via international trade missions, Trade Development is doing an excellent job of bringing vital new business to the Port.

The primary thing we offer is our location and the physical infrastructure for use by vessels and cargo handlers. The PHA provides clean, safe and strategically located wharves and storage areas to facilitate all aspects of cargo handling. The Trade Development Division ensures that existing and potential customers are fully aware that the Port Authority offers enhanced services to help our customers conduct international trade.

Trade Development constantly surveys the global marketplace so PHA remains aware of emerging shipping and commodity trends. The division diligently acquires market data from third-party providers from which we glean strategic insight to drive our planning for facility enhancement and / or expansion. PHA also calls upon the Trade Development Division to perform its own proprietary market analysis and forecasts for use in the strategic planning process. The division works very closely with shipping lines, cargo interests, brokers and forwarders and stevedores to ensure that PHA is able to meet, and in some instances anticipate, their changing needs.
