| Telling the port's
story by relating it directly to the things that matter
most in people's daily lives is the goal of the public
affairs division. In the communications department,
we focus on assisting members of the media with:
| |
current and historical information
on the port |
| |
our economic impact |
| |
our involvement in the community |
| |
our commitment to the environment
|
| |
our rapidly rising stature in
global trade and commerce |
| |
our overall contribution to
the quality of life in Houston and the surrounding
region |
The opening phase of the Bayport Container
Terminal is operational. The project broke ground in
early June 2004 and began operations in January 2007.

The
Berth of Bayport
About 800 elected
officials, port commissioners, community leaders, labor
leaders and representatives of the maritime industry
turned out on February 8 to participate in the grand
opening of the first phase of the Bayport Container
Terminal. "The Berth of Bayport Container and Cruise
Terminal" provided the guests the opportunity to
witness the opening phase of the most technologically
advanced container terminal on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

The Port Authority has purchased 173
acres near the Armand Bayou Nature Center. This site
will be protected as a conservation
easement, creating nearly 70 acres of emergent freshwater
wetlands, enhancing 12 acres of existing wetlands, preserving
3.7 acres of forested upland and restoring 71 acres
of upland coastal prairie.
