| The Port of Houston
Authority (PHA) recognizes the importance of supporting
local communities. Therefore, it is the policy of PHA
to sponsor community programs, initiatives, activities
or matters deemed vital to supporting the development
or promotion of the port, its waterways, and/or its
terminals. Additionally, PHA supports activities that
advance the betterment of the port's relationships with
organizations that advocate maritime transportation
efforts, provide economic development opportunities,
enhance government relations, promote environmental
initiatives and awareness, and provide community-based
activities in the best interest of the port.
PHA commissioners, PHA staff members,
and representatives of external organizations may request
PHA sponsorship of events or programs through support
in the form of cash or in-kind services, including but
not limited to luncheon or dinner banquet table sponsorships,
special tours aboard the M/V Sam Houston, community
outreach programs and events that comply with PHA's
Priority Sponsorship Guidelines.
PHA Sponsorship Priorities
I. Maritime Commerce: PHA is committed
to sponsoring programs and services that educate and
promote maritime commerce and transportation, market
interaction, trade development, maritime industry-related
career readiness, and maritime services. Maritime-related
programs that help generate direct or indirect revenues
for the port will be given priority consideration.
II. Economic Development: PHA is committed
to supporting maritime-related trade associations, small
business development initiatives, economic growth, chamber
memberships and activities, and education. Maritime-related
programs that help generate direct or indirect revenues
for the port will be given priority consideration.
III. Environmental Awareness: PHA
is committed to sponsoring programs that promote environmental
protection and/or stewardship through educational projects
and initiatives aimed at waste reduction, pollution
prevention, marsh creation, and storm-water management.
The range of programs may include environmental fairs,
park and open space development, community cleanups,
conferences and other projects dedicated to protecting
the environment and promoting environmental stewardship.
IV. Community Outreach: PHA is committed
to supporting community-based activities or programs
that promote the general welfare of a community and
promote port-related alliances, governmental cooperatives,
strategic opportunities for PHA employee volunteerism,
and educational initiatives and community outreach efforts
deemed to be in the best interest of the port. The highest
priority consideration will be given to those communities
adjacent to port properties or impacted by port operations.
The PHA Sponsorship Priorities are
meant to serve as a guide for all community involvement
efforts, including, but not limited to, contributions
of cash, in-kind services, port-sponsored community
partnerships or employee volunteer efforts, and any
other means for PHA's involvement in local communities.
All requests for PHA participation
in sponsorships must be submitted in writing using the
